Histone acetyltransferase MYST3

MOZ (Monocytic leukaemia Zinc-finger protein) belongs to the MYST histone acetyltransferase family. Its role has been implicated in normal as well as malignant hematopoiesis (PMID: 18754862). MOZ-CBP fusion protein is formed during translocation events associated with leukemia and it antagonises the AML-1 complex required for differentiation. This activity is not associated with the HAT domain of MOZ (PMID: 11742995). MOZ along with MLL, has been shown to regulate key transcription factors for Hox gene expression in human cord blood CD34+ cells which are critical for leukemogenesis (PMID: 20581860). MORF is reported to be disrupted in uterine leiomyomas (PMID: 15313893). MORF and MOZ together help in the regulation of Runx2 mediated transcriptional activation (PMID: 11965546).
